I Quit My Job One Year Ago. Here’s What Happened

One year ago, I left my six-figure job to go all in on my Airbnb cleaning business. I learned a lot about growth, automation, and hiring. Here are the biggest takeaways.

I quit my six-figure job one year ago.

In February 2024, I made the leap. I walked away from a stable six-figure career to go all in on my Airbnb cleaning business. No backup plan. No guarantees. Just a belief that I could build something bigger.

One year later, we finished 2024 just shy of $250,000 in revenue, and now we are on track to hit $500,000 this year (January and February are already 4x vs last year).

It has not been easy though. There were months I questioned everything. But looking back, the biggest lessons were not about cleaning. They were about business and people.

Getting Customers: Tell Everyone What You Do

Most people overcomplicate sales (and spend way too much on marketing). I tried not to. Everywhere I went, I told people what I was doing. Not in a salesy way. Just in conversation.

“This is what I do. Let me know if you ever need help.”

Turns out, when people needed a cleaner, they remembered me.

Operations: Automate Everything You Can

Cleaning schedules are chaos. Things change. People cancel. Guests leave properties in a disaster.

The only way to keep up is to automate and document everything. From scheduling to issue reporting, my goal is to remove human bottlenecks and let the systems run themselves.

I am putting together an email course on automating your cleaning business. If you want in, join the waitlist here.

Hiring: Work with Great People or Regret It Later

I used to think I could train anyone into being great. I was wrong.

Great people are great from the start. They show up. They take ownership. They make your life easier. If someone tells you who they are by their actions, believe them.
