My cold DM made me $8K. Here’s why it worked.
Cold outreach isn’t about spamming strangers—it’s about starting conversations. Here’s how I used cold DMs, calls, and emails to land Airbnb clients (without being annoying).
One of the best ways to get new Airbnb clients is also probably the most taboo - cold outreach.
But this same approach landed me $8,000 in revenue from one client over just 3 months.
Done right, cold outreach isn’t sleezy or annoying. It’s a game changer. If you think about cold outreach as only a way to get in front of new customers (turn and burn) you’re doing it wrong. But if you think about it as a way to get your name out there and develop relationships, you’re on the right track.
Cold DMs
One of our biggest customers came from a cold DM on Facebook.
Here’s a screenshot of the exact message. This resulted in a coffee chat, which turned into a quote, which turned into $8,000 in revenue over just 3 months.

I’m stoked.

Cold Email
The final member of this cold outreach triple threat is cold email. Here’s an example of how I used cold email to land some more Airbnb clients:

If you want more details on how to craft the perfect cold email, here’s a really long thread I wrote a while back:
How to write a cold email that people will respond to:
Yesterday I took a crash course in writing cold emails (thanks @ShaanVP, @benmlevy ). It rocked me.
Not going to lie, I thought I was pretty good at getting attention COLD.
Nope. Not good at all.
Here are my takeaways… x.com/i/web/status/1…

Simply put, cold outreach (DMs, calls, emails) is an incredible (and free) way to find new customers for your business. Especially if you’re focused on connecting, building relationships, and offering value, your cold outreach strategy can go a long way!
