Good money
Not all money is good money
Let’s kick off today’s newsletter with a poll 👇️
Have you ever fired a customer? |
There was a host we couldn't satisfy.
No matter what we did, she was never happy. The worst part: it was stressing out my manager, our cleaners, and me. It wasn't worth it.
Although it was a big account for us, we parted ways. The lesson was big for us: not all money is good money
Yep, it’s true. Even if a hosts brings in some cash, it might not be worth it. If your stomach drops like a rock each time they call, it’s time to break up.
How To Break Up
If you’re in this situation and want to break up with a customer, here are a few ways to go about it:
Raise your prices. Is there a dollar amount that would make dealing with your client worth it? What is it? Congratulations, that’s the new price.
It’s bad taste to say “we’re done.” Raising the price will let them come up with that answer on their own. And if they accept the new price, it’s a win-win, right? The customer might even be costing you money as-is. Find out here.
Take the blame. You can always say, “we’re not able to provide the level of service you want or deserve. Here are a few other cleaners you can contact.” Then give him/her your least favorite competitor’s number.
Give them a piece of your mind. In case you didn’t know, this is not my recommended method. No need to give yourself a bad name or reputation. But if you do have angry feelings, get out a pen & paper, write out a nasty letter to the person, and then shred it. Trust me, it helps.
Reminder
When you’re new and starting out, you’re going to feel the intense pressure to win every bid. This is normal and a good thing. But after a while, you’re going to learn which customers you love, and which ones you’d rather never see again.
If you have one of those customers, it might be time to break up. Doing so will create space on your calendar for a new customer. One that you will love working for.
That’s all for this Tuesday edition of Same Day Turn. If you loved it, please share it!
